Quality Assurance

REGULATORY BACKGROUND

The Quality Assurance mechanism is set out in the Self-Assessment, Evaluation and Accreditation processes defined by ANVUR. Within such a context, the University of Florence established a Quality Assurance System including a section dedicated to the Quality of Teaching. The fundamental pillars of the Quality Assurance System are summarised below.

REVIEW GROUP (GRUPPO DI RIESAME)

The Review Group is a dedicated committee within the Degree Programmes, responsible for self-assessing the educational offering of the programme, and includes student representatives. Its primary task is to identify strengths — intending to preserve them over time — and areas for improvement on which to take subsequent action. These activities include commenting on the data presented in the Annual Monitoring Form (Scheda di Monitoraggio Annuale – SMA). The group’s composition is available on the Governance page.

Recent meeting minutes (available in Italian):

ADVISORY BOARD (COMITATO DI INDIRIZZO)

The Advisory Board is a body composed of external members to the Degree Program, which provides suggestions for improvement, advice on potential changes to the study plans, and, more generally, enables ongoing dialogue between the program’s organisation and the job market. The group’s composition is available on the Governance page.

JOINT TEACHER-STUDENT COMMITTEE (COMMISSIONE PARITETICA DOCENTI STUDENTI, CPDS)

permanent observatory on teaching activities, aimed at coordinating all programs within the School of Economics and Management. The composition is available on the School of Economics and Management’s website, along with the most recent meeting minutes.

YEARLY PROGRAM FORM (SCHEDA UNICA ANNUALE DEL CORSO DI STUDIO, SUA-CdS)

The SUA-CdS is the functional management tool for the design, implementation, self-assessment and re-design of degree programmes.

At the design level, the Form collects, among other things, the information helpful in making known the objectives and the training course of the Degree Course, the learning outcomes and related courses, the outgoing profiles, and the structures available.

Concerning self-assessment and re-design, the SUA-CdS collects the responsibilities relating to the management of the QA system of the CdS, the prerequisites for the periodic review of its system, any corrections identified and possible improvements.

According to a timetable defined annually by the Ministry, the two sections that make up the Form, the Administration Section and the Quality Section, are updated by the individual Degree Programmes and made public by the Ministry of Education on the Universitaly portal, dedicated to informing students and their families.

ANNUAL MONITORING FORM (SCHEDA DI MONITORAGGIO ANNUALE, SMA)

The Annual Monitoring Form aims to verify the adequacy of the learning objectives that the degree course has set itself, the correspondence between the objectives and the results, as well as the effectiveness of the management of the individual course of study. The Fact Sheets concern the data published by ANVUR about entry into the Degree Course, the regularity of the course of study, the exit from the Degree Course, and entry into the world of work, internationalization, and qualitative/quantitative indicators of teaching. Data are managed and commented by the Review Group (see above).

REVIEW REPORTS (RAPPORTI DI RIESAME, RR)

The Cyclical Review Report is the self-assessment activity that each Degree Program is required to carry out, considering the entire training project. Since it refers to a period containing the whole course of a cohort of students, the Report assesses the suitability, adequacy, and effectiveness of the program, to identify corrections and/or improvement actions.

STUDENT OPINION SURVEY (RILEVAZIONE DELL'OPINIONE DEGLI STUDENTI)

The opinions of students and graduates on courses and Courses of Study are an integral part of the QA system of the Universities, representing one of the central aspects of the AVA system and a requirement for accreditation. This information is the essential source for identifying critical aspects and margins for improvement in the organisation of the degree course and in the teaching itself.

Student opinion surveys are directly administered by the University of Florence. Additional information are available at this page.
